What AFOQT Pilot score do you need?

The published floor is simple: a Pilot composite of 25 or higher is required for pilot and RPA pilot training (DAFMAN 36-2664, Table A2.1). Selection is another matter — boards rank candidates, and the Pilot score also drives your PCSM.

Minimum vs competitive

25 is the minimum to be eligible. Selection boards use the AFOQT "as one of several factors", and for pilots the PCSM score — which combines your Pilot composite, the TBAS and your flying hours — goes to the board as well. AFROTC gives PCSM 40% of the weight in its Pilot Order of Merit (DAFMAN 36-2664 3.8.2.1). The Air Force doesn't publish average scores of selectees, so treat any "cut-off" you read online as hearsay.

What builds the Pilot composite

Four subtests: Math Knowledge, Table Reading, Instrument Comprehension and Aviation Information. Two of them — Table Reading (40 in 7 minutes) and Instrument Comprehension (25 in 5 minutes) — are speed-and-accuracy skills that improve fast with timed repetition. Aviation Information is pure knowledge. Math Knowledge is the slowest to move, so start it early.

The fastest way to raise it

  1. Take the diagnostic: the report names the Pilot subtest where you lose the most.
  2. Drill that subtest on the real clock daily — Instrument Comprehension and Table Reading sets are generated, so you never run out.
  3. Learn the Aviation Information basics (controls, four forces, instruments, airport signs).
  4. Keep Math Knowledge in the plan every few days.
