The Air Force uses the four MAGE composites (Mechanical, Administrative, General, Electronics) layered over the AFQT. Re-verified 2026-07-23 against the current Air Force ASVAB page: Mechanical (M) = VE + AR + AS + MC, Administrative (A) = VE + MK, General (G) = VE + AR, and Electronics (E) = AR + MK + EI + GS — so General Science counts only toward E, not toward M. Active-duty Air Force enlistment requires an AFQT of 31 for high-school seniors and graduates and 50 for GED holders; the Air Force is generally selective beyond the floor and prefers AFQT 50+ for many AFSCs.

The ASVAB has no pass/fail mark — the AFQT is a 1–99 percentile, and each branch sets its own floor. For the United States Air Force that floor is AFQT 31 for a tier-1 applicant (high-school diploma), verified 2026-07-26 against airforce.com (ASVAB — eligibility). Clearing it makes you eligible to enlist; it does not by itself open any specific job, because jobs gate on line-score composites (M, A, G, E) as well.
Yes, but the bar is higher. Tier-2 applicants (GED or an alternative credential rather than a high-school diploma) need AFQT 50 for the United States Air Force, versus 31 for tier-1 — a 19-point gap. Heads up: many guides still list AFQT 65 as the Air Force GED minimum — that figure is out of date. airforce.com (ASVAB — eligibility) currently publishes 50, so plan against 50, not 65.
