AFQT 31 is a percentile. Eligibility notes

What 0311 candidates should check.

  • The public Marine Corps enlistment-option order lists GT 80 for the UH Infantry option. The current FY26 accession message does not republish a GT threshold; it says each applicant's Statement of Understanding contains the specific enlistment requirements. Treat GT 80 as the published public baseline shown by this page, not a promise that it controls a current contract.
  • AFQT and GT answer different questions. Marines.com currently lists AFQT 31 for standard applicants, or 50+ for applicants with a GED or nontraditional diploma; the GT line score is then used for job-field qualification. Meeting AFQT 31 alone does not qualify an applicant for every Marine MOS.
  • For FY26, active-component applicants enlist into a Program Enlisted For (PEF), not a guaranteed individual PMOS. The UH Infantry PEF includes 0311 Rifleman, 0313 LAV Crewman, 0331 Machine Gunner, 0341 Mortarman, and 0352 Anti-Tank Missile Gunner. Confirm what the current infantry contract guarantees before signing.
  • After recruit training, enlisted Infantry Marines attend the 14-week Infantry Marine Course at the School of Infantry in Camp Geiger, North Carolina, or Camp Pendleton, California. The official role page says the course covers warfighting philosophy, offensive and defensive operations, combat maneuvers, patrolling, and fire and maneuver.
  • The official 03XX physical-standards checklist applies several events to 0311, including a 300-meter rush in under 3 minutes 56 seconds while wearing a fighting load and a casualty evacuation that moves a 214-pound simulated casualty 25 meters in 54 seconds or less. These are MOS-specific assessment standards, separate from the Initial Strength Test required before recruit training.

What are the 0311 MOS requirements?

The public score baseline for the UH Infantry option is GT 80, while Marines.com lists AFQT 31 for standard applicants or 50+ with a GED or nontraditional diploma. For FY26, 0311 is one PMOS inside the UH Infantry PEF, and the applicant's current Statement of Understanding controls exact contract requirements. Candidates must also meet Marine enlistment, medical, fitness, and infantry training standards.

What ASVAB score do you need for infantry Marines?

Use AFQT 31 as the general Marine enlistment floor for standard applicants and GT 80 as the public UH Infantry option baseline. They are separate scores: AFQT determines basic enlistment eligibility, while GT helps determine job-field qualification. Current contract terms can change, so verify the GT requirement in the Statement of Understanding with a recruiter.

Is GT 80 guaranteed to qualify you for Marine 0311?

No. GT 80 is the baseline published in the public Marine Corps enlistment-option order for UH Infantry. The FY26 accession message says applicants enlist into a PEF and that the current Statement of Understanding contains the specific requirements. A recruiter and classifier must confirm eligibility and available contracts.

Can you sign a contract that guarantees MOS 0311 Rifleman?

The FY26 active-component message says applicants enlist into a Program Enlisted For rather than a specific PMOS. Its UH Infantry PEF contains 0311 along with four other infantry specialties. Read the current Statement of Understanding closely and ask the recruiter what the contract guarantees.

How long is Marine 0311 Rifleman training?

Marines.com says enlisted Infantry Marines attend a 14-week Infantry Marine Course at the School of Infantry after recruit training. Training is conducted at Camp Geiger, North Carolina, or Camp Pendleton, California.

What physical requirements apply to Marine 0311?

All recruits must meet Marine enlistment and Initial Strength Test standards. The official 03XX MOS-specific checklist also includes 0311 assessment events such as a 300-meter rush under fighting load and a timed ground-casualty evacuation. Medical and final physical eligibility decisions belong to Marine recruiting and MEPS officials.

What does a Marine 0311 Rifleman do?

0311 Riflemen are close-combat Marines who serve in infantry fire teams and rifle squads. The Marine Corps describes infantry roles as conducting offensive and defensive operations, combat maneuvers, patrolling, and fire and maneuver.
